Selfridges Giant Knitted Jumper
As part of Selfridges’ ‘Worn Again’ campaign I was commissioned to create a giant knitted jumper to be displayed in the Wonder rooms and the window on the corner of Oxford street and Orchard street.
I arm knitted the jumper (no needles involved just arms) with giant merino wool.
The jumper is 2.6 metres high, with a 7.8 metre circumference and 4.5 metre long sleeves, she’s a biggie!
Behind The scenes
I created a behind the scenes video to highlight some of the processes that went into the creation of the giant knit.
The giant merino wool was so chunky I knitted the jumper on my arms rather than using needles.
I was lucky enough to collaborate with Emily Pugh and Andrew from AN architecture, who created the foundation/form of the body and sleeves and hands. The Video was shot at my own studio, AN architecture’s workshop in Margate and in Selfridges.
At the end of the project I recycled the giant jumper into blankets which were donated to a women’s shelter.
